Commitment to Achieving Net Zero
Amhurst Hotel is committed to reducing its environmental impact and supporting the UK
Government’s target of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
We recognise the importance of sustainable operations within the hospitality sector and adopt
a proactive and continuously improving approach to measuring, managing and reducing
our carbon footprint.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
As a small, independent hotel, we are in the process of establishing a formal baseline for
carbon emissions.
Baseline Year: 2025
This will include emissions from:
- Scope 1 – Direct emissions (e.g. gas heating)
- Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from purchased electricity
- Scope 3 – Selected indirect emissions (e.g. water, waste, and supply chain activities)
We are implementing structured processes to monitor energy and resource consumption and
establish an accurate baseline for future reporting and target setting.
Current Emissions Reporting
We are working towards formalising emissions data collection and reporting. This includes:
- Monitoring electricity and gas usage
- Reviewing utility bills to identify consumption trends
- Identifying key sources of emissions across operations
Carbon Reduction Measures
Amhurst Hotel has implemented, or is actively implementing, a range of practical measures
to reduce environmental impact.
Energy Efficiency
- Transition to LED lighting across the property
- Regular maintenance of heating systems to ensure optimal efficiency
- Encouraging staff to switch off unused equipment
Water Efficiency
- Monitoring water usage
- Installing water-efficient fixtures where possible
- Encouraging responsible use by staff and guests
- Use of a rainwater harvesting and recycling system to supply water for toilet
flushing, significantly reducing mains water consumption and supporting
reduced environmental impact
Waste Management
- Implementation of recycling processes
- Reduction of single-use plastics where feasible
- Responsible disposal of waste through licensed contractors
Operational Practices and Supply Chain
- Encouraging digital documentation to reduce paper usage
- Promoting environmentally responsible behaviours among staff
- Reviewing procurement practices to favour sustainable suppliers
In relation to laundry operations:
- Towels are washed on site, allowing for greater control over water and energy
usage
- Bed linen cleaning is outsourced to a local provider, reducing transportation
distances and associated emissions while supporting local businesses
This approach supports both operational efficiency and reduces environmental impact within
our supply chain.
Future Commitments and Targets
Amhurst Hotel is committed to continuous improvement and will:
- Establish a formal carbon baseline during 2025
- Set measurable reduction targets following baseline completion
- Explore opportunities for:
o Renewable energy suppliers
o Further energy-efficient upgrades
o Enhanced water-saving initiatives
o Sustainable procurement practices
We aim to achieve year-on-year reductions in emissions, supported by monitoring and
data-led decision making.
